Older People (+ Providers)
Counselling can be accessed under either program. It is time-limited under both programs, typically offered as fortnightly sessions under STRC and monthly sessions under the HCP. Please enquire about this service option with your case manager, social worker or relevant person who manages an aged care program.

NDIS
Anyone under age 65 (+ Providers)
Counselling can be accessed under the NDIS. Please discuss this service with your Support Coordinator or family member, if relevant. Sometimes, the budget may have a specific allocation or it may be available as a short term option under Capacity Building Support.
The NDIS Pricing Arrangements & Price Limits currently prices individual counselling at $156.16/session (effective 17/8/21) under Item # 15_043_0128_1_3 and travel at $0.85 a kilometre.

GENERAL
Older People (65+)
This option may be suitable if you are not with any aged care program and would prefer a Counsellor with a depth of experience in aged care or who understands some of the challenges of getting older, or the challenges of caring for family who are unwell.
NOTE: A psychologist, under a Mental Health Treatment Plan, may charge fees in excess of the Medicare subsidy of $84.80. A Counsellor may have greater availability and may even better support your concerns.

General 18+
You may want a Counsellor who has experience in counselling people with a range of life concerns such as anxiety about an impending birth, conflict in the workplace or with family, indecision about a work direction, grief for loss of a job or death of a family member, separation from family or partner due to COVID-19 and so on.
NOTE: A psychologist, under a Mental Health Treatment Plan, may charge fees in excess of the Medicare subsidy of $84.80. A Counsellor may have greater availability and may even better meet your needs.
